Regulations
Official Notice: Temporary Suspension of Vehicle Exports from Japan to Ghana
2 October 2026 · JGEA Executive

Effective immediately — 2 October 2026
The Japan Ghana Exporters Association (JGEA) hereby informs all members, vehicle exporters and other stakeholders engaged in the Japan–Ghana vehicle trade that the Association has resolved to place a temporary suspension on the export of vehicles to Ghana, effective immediately from 2 October 2026.
This is a precautionary measure adopted by JGEA and should not be interpreted as a prohibition or directive issued by the Government of Ghana or the Government of Japan.
This measure is being taken in view of the current challenges and the need for clear clarification concerning the Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC), inspection and certification requirements applicable to used vehicles destined for Ghana.
Purpose of the suspension
The suspension will allow the Association to engage the relevant authorities and stakeholders, including the Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Japan and Omanbapa Auto & PVoC Ltd., to address the current challenges, establish the applicable requirements and obtain the necessary clarification before normal export operations resume.
Cooperation request
JGEA respectfully urges its members and also requests the cooperation of non-members involved in the Japan–Ghana vehicle export trade.
Exporters are requested to refrain from initiating or proceeding with vehicle shipments to Ghana during the suspension period until the Association has completed the necessary consultations and issued a further official communication.
This suspension is intended as a temporary and precautionary measure to promote clarity, compliance and the orderly continuation of trade. The Association will communicate further updates following its engagements with the relevant parties.
